Charlotte Pouwels

Young Explorer

Charlotte is a physicist, space engineer, and public speaker, co-founder of ICEE.Space, Advancing Analogue Astronaut Space Missions, and STEAM/ESA education ambassador.

Charlotte is a Dutch physicist, EU space engineer, ESA Champion public speaker, and advocate for women in STEAM. As the CTO of ICEE.Space, she pioneers analogue missions that simulate space exploration in extreme environments. She has worked on different missions and expeditions, led habitat testing in Iceland’s lava tubes, and contributed to Galileo satellite launches with SpaceX and Ariane 62.

On board as a Young Explorer, her research will focus on testing analogue space suits and systems in remote and extreme conditions, gaining critical insights for future lunar missions. She aims to refine suit performance in harsh terrains, improving astronaut mobility, durability, and safety to make space more accessible to all. The Arctic landscapes can serve as moon mission testbeds, bridging space innovation with Earth’s harshest environments.

In her free time, Charlotte loves exploring the world—diving, riding her motorcycle, sailing, or hiking in the mountains with her partner and their dog, Laika. Her next big goal is to travel to space and leverage space technologies to protect Earth's oceans.
